Cabinet secretary Shafiul to become WB alternate exec director

Finance minister AHM Mustafa Kamal on Wednesday announced that cabinet secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam would become the next alternate executive director of the World Bank in Washington DC, replacing Muhammad Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan.

The minister came up with the disclosure of Bangladesh’s nomination for the WB post after a meeting of the cabinet committee on economic affairs at the secretariat.

Shafiul, an officer of 1982 Bangladesh Civil Service, was made the cabinet secretary in October 2015, replacing Muhammad Mosharraf, who has been holding the post of WB alternate executive director since November 2015.

Bridges division secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam would be appointed as the new cabinet secretary, the minister told reporters.
